Day 4. Tropical Islands and Mari Mari Cultural Village (BLD)
A short fifteen minutes by boat from Kota Kinabalu, the tropical islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park beckon.  Our first stop is Sapi Island where you can swim, snorkel, take a leisurely stroll or just relax and enjoy the serenity under the shady trees by the crystal clear island waters.  Then it’s a quick island hop to Manukan Island where a sumptuous BBQ lunch awaits.  Later in the day experience the Mari Mari Cultural Village.  In the village, where cultural diversity is not an issue but a source of local pride, you can savour the soul of Sabah.  You will be greeted by the Village Chief and a welcome ceremony then be invited into the warmth of the different homes built by descendants of the tribes they represent.  As we explore the village enter the various huts where daily activities of old times come to life including blowpipe making, rice wine processing and traditional tattooing.  By the end of your village tour you will have seen, heard, tasted and felt the uniqueness of Sabah and enjoyed a truly genuine cultural experience.  Overnight: Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu
Day 5. North Borneo Railway (BLD)
Passing through villages and coastal towns, paddy fields, rainforests and plantations of rubber and coffee, a ride on North Borneo Railway is truly a journey of discovery into the heart of Borneo.  Soak up the nostalgia and romance of an old steam train complete with colonial dressed train stewards and a traditional Tiffin lunch.  Relive a bygone era in an environment that would have been typical of train journeys in the 1900s.  Scheduled stops en route allow time to visit a temple, local markets and shops. Overnight: Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu
Day 6. Kinabalu Park and Poring Hot Spring (BLD)
Bidding farewell to Kota Kinabalu we begin our journey across the north of Borneo Island beginning with a visit to Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Listed Site.  The feature of the park is Mount Kinabalu. An impressive 4095m, it is the second highest mountain in South East Asia.  Visit the Exhibit Centre, take a relaxing rainforest walk and in the Mount Garden view a selection of the 1,200 species of orchids found in the Park.  At the Kundasang War Memorial pay tribute to the Australian and British servicemen killed in the infamous Sandakan Death March of World War II.  After lunch take time to de-stress and soak away the aches and pains in the spring fed hot mineral water pools at Poring Hot Springs. The more adventurous can tackle the challenge of the Canopy Walk.  The series of platforms suspended 41 metres above the forest floor and amidst the lush canopy of the king of the forest, the Menggaris trees, provide an exhilarating experience.  Overnight: Lofty Hodges Cottages, Sabah Tea Plantation
Day 7. Sabah Tea Plantation and Sandakan (BLD)
Enjoy breakfast in a serene setting overlooking the Sabah Tea Plantation with vistas of the sun rising over Mount Kinabalu.  Discover the secrets to making the best cuppa on a tour of the tea plantation and processing facilities.  Travelling across the island to the north east coast we arrive at the harbour city of Sandakan.  The World War II tragic tale of the Sandakan Death Marches is told at the site of the POW camp from where the gruesome marches began.  Overnight: Sheraton Four Points Hotel, Sandakan
Day 8. Endangered Orang Utans and English Tea House (BLD)
We start the day at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.  Learn about the magnificent work the Centre staff do to help orphaned baby Orang Utans be rehabilitated and prepared for release back to their natural habitats in the rainforests of Borneo.  Be sure to keep your camera close at hand in readiness for your first close contact with an Orang Utan.  This experience is surely one that will get your heart racing with excitement.  Observe the Orang Utan families and other primates at the feeding platform then stroll along the board walks to soak up the sights and sounds of the beautiful rainforest environment.  Enjoy lunch at the charming English Tea House high above the city overlooking the Sandakan harbour before an afternoon tour of Sandakan, visiting the Chinese Temple, St Michael’s Church and a water village.  Overnight: Sheraton Four Points Hotel, Sandakan

Day 9. Rainforest Discovery Centre and Kinabatangan River (BLD)
At the Rainforest Discovery Centre marvel at the beauty of the Sepilok rainforest and immerse yourself in the tree tops with the 250 bird species and other wildlife.  Keep a look out as you may even spot an Orang Utan swinging through the trees!  Plant lovers will be thrilled by the diversity of native orchids, pitcher plants and tropical plants such as the Venus flytrap on display in the Centre’s plant discovery garden.  Visit the bustling Central Markets and a local restaurant for lunch.  Departing from Sandakan jetty we take a boat journey up the mighty Kinabatangan River (Sabah’s longest river).  Travelling past sleepy fishing villages, the ever changing landscapes provide opportunities to view wildlife in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest natural habitats.  Our river journey ends at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge in the heart of one of the best wildlife viewing regions in all of South East Asia.  After checking into this beautiful award-winning lodge, grab your camera and board a small eco-friendly canoe for a sunset wildlife river cruise.  The Sakau region of Borneo is a nature lover’s paradise.  The Kinabatangan River and beautiful rainforest environment is home to unique Borneo pygmy elephants, endangered orang utans, the unusual looking proboscis monkeys, eight other primate species, all eight species of the incredible hornbill birds plus countless other birds, animals and reptiles.  You will be spellbound!  Overnight: Sukau Rainforest Lodge, Sukau
