This morning we continue from the Clare Valley onto Petersborough located on the edge of the Southern Flinders.  The landscape is wide and old and the town is tiny.  It is there you will discover the hub of the mighty locomotives that sat at the crossroads of a growing nation. At Peterborough’s Steamtown you will learn about the vast rail operation where over 100 steam locomotives passed through each day before heading to all corners of Australia. On your guided tour you will be transported back to the glamorous 1920’s when train travel was the most elegant way to get around.  You can also sit in the cabin where men shovelled coal and visit the baby health car that toured remote SA.  Onwards to Hawker and we arrive at the gallery of internationally acclaimed fine artist Jeff Morgan. Surrounded by the beautiful Flinders Ranges, the natural flora, fauna and landscapes provide endless inspiration. It is here that you will also discover the impressive and famous Wilpena Panorama.  Tonight settle into your accommodation at Wilpena Pound Resort.  Overnight:  Wilpena Pound Resort

Be silenced by the extraordinary beauty of the great river red gums as you nibble on cake and coffee by the Homestead. Lunch today is at your leisure at the resort.  This afternoon with a local guide learn about life on a commercial sheep station. Rawnsley Park runs approximately 2,000 Dohne sheep. Visit the shearing shed to see how the wool is sorted and baled, before visiting the water points. These days Rawnsley Park uses solar powered bore pumps to water stock.  Overnight:  Wilpena Pound Resort
