The Killer Whales of the Bremer Canyon
17/05/2017
Tour Leader Chris Slee took to the high seas on this incredible villa discovery Killer Whale tour!
OMG…my heart is still racing after the excitement of our cruise out from Bremer Bay to view the killer whales of the Bremer Canyon. I really don't think anyone in the group slept the night before as we were all so looking forward to the next day.
During our 5-hour trip out to this new marine hotspot, the Bremer Canyon, we had at least 40 to 50 sightings of whales, including calves. The researchers on board told us these whales could calve at any time of the year.
These amazing creatures came very close to the boat and even under it so I did not even have to get my binoculars out but i had my camera at the ready!
Some of the group were a bit nervous about going an hour and a half out into the Southern Ocean, but only two passengers got a bit seasick. We had an incredible array of ideas to ward off sea- sickness. There were travel sickness pills, pressure- point bands, band aids behind the ear, earplugs in the opposite ear to the dominant side, a cork in the belly-button and even band aids on the nipples (please note we do not recommend some of these ideas!!) Apart from these remedies, if all else failed, I had a grater and green apples to help if anyone did get sick.
The crew on the boat were excellent and I must say, this cruise should be on everyone’s bucket list! This new marine hotspot has all the scientists super excited so get in now before the crowds find out. I can’t recommend this amazing tour highly enough!
