Visit Canberra in 2019
Villa Tour Leader Chris is excited to head to Canberra in 2019.
I can’t believe that another year has flown by and its nearly time to visit the Canberra Festival for Enlighten Canberra and the grand spectacle of the Balloon Spectacular!
On our trip last year, an early morning start saw acres of balloons and baskets inflating with massive gas fires plumes. There was a party atmosphere at dawn as locals and visitors parade from one colourful globe to another, speculating as to which will rise first over the crowd. We even had the opportunity to go inside a semi-inflated balloon. Surreal.
Our hotel was a few steps from the CBD precinct, yet views from our balcony each morning are of the graceful and vibrant balloons as they take their dawn flights.
This holiday gives the opportunity to visit many of our Nations great treasures including the Art Gallery, Portrait Gallery, High Court, historical and ‘hysterical’ Parliament houses and the fledgling National Arboretum, arising like a phoenix from the tragic bushfires of 2003. The contemporary Australian War Memorial flanked by the Avenue of Honour is an emotional visit, timed to participate in the evocative “last post’ ceremony at closing.
Naturally there are lots of opportunities to be gastronomically enchanted, and to while away some time appreciating local crafts and goodies at the historic Bus Depot markets.
Enjoy this year's tour! I wish I was going along but I know Tour Leader Jan will look after you all!
