Day 1. Perth to Dalwallinu (LD)
Following collection from your home we depart Perth and travel north along the Great Northern Highway. Our day takes us through the scenic Bindoon hills and New Norcia. See behind closed doors in Australian only monastic town. Overnight: Wheatland Motel, Dalwallinu
Day 2. Dalwallinu to Meekatharra (BD)
Today sit back, relax and watch with interest the dramatic changes in the countryside as we travel into the more arid station country around Paynes Find. This is an area traditionally rich in seasonal wildflowers which present themselves in brilliant carpets of colour. During the afternoon we pass through the historic Murchison Goldfields with townships that bear the legacy of grand buildings constructed during the gold boom. Day 3. Meekatharra to Mount Augustus (BLD)
This morning we venture into the isolated heart of the states North West as we travel from Meekatharra to Mount Augustus. Cross mighty sheep stations and the headwaters of the Gascoyne River en-route to our accommodation venue, the Mount Augustus Tourist Complex, situated adjacent to the base of this magnificent natural feature. Overnight: Mount Augustus Tourist Park, Mount Augustus
It is important to note that the Mount Augustus Tourist Park offers accommodation with shared bathroom facilities, however this is outback Western Australia and you should expect a unique holiday experience.
Day 4. Exploring Mount Augustus (BLD)
This morning rise early to witness the beauty of sunrise on the “mount” before breakfast. In addition to the sheer spectacle of the world’s biggest rock, Mount Augustus offers an abundance of wildlife with flocks of parrots, cockatoos, colourful wrens and waterfowl surrounding the billabongs. Aboriginal rock art provides a reminder of the earliest visitors to the rock and in seasons wildflowers carpet the surrounds. Your tour today includes morning tea and lunch at the Tourist Park. The afternoon includes some free time where you can relax and enjoy this unique part of Australia. During the late afternoon we position ourselves to enjoy sunset over the rock. Day 5. Mount Augustus to Carnarvon (BLD)
We depart Mount Augustus travelling through beautiful river country with majestic river gums and passing Cobra Station which was built in 1896 to cater for mine workers at the then famous El Dorado Gold Mine. We continue through the magnificent Kennedy Ranges which although foreboding in appearance, house hidden springs and some of the state’s best deposits of fossils and gemstones. Today we enjoy lunch with the locals at the Gascoyne Junction Hotel, located on the junction of the Gascoyne and Lyons Rivers. With our appetites satisfied, we follow the Gascoyne River westwards toward the coast and the fruit growing town of Carnarvon. Overnight: Best Western Hospitality Inn, Carnarvon
Day 6. Carnarvon (BD)
Today we explore the many wonders that Carnarvon has to offer. We visit the significant and historical One Mile Jetty and Lighthouse Keepers Cottage Museum. Enjoy lunch at your leisure then travel to the OTC Dish and the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum. Learn all there is to know about the history and the role Carnarvon played in the manned space program and in the Australian communications industry. Day 7. Carnarvon to Geraldton (BD)
Our morning commences with a tour of one of Carnarvon’s famous banana plantations and a visit to the township. We then travel south down the North West Coastal Highway to the Billabong Roadhouse where you can purchase lunch at your leisure. Our afternoon touring takes us through the historical township of Northampton to Geraldton, the regional centre of the Mid West. Overnight: Best Western Hospitality Inn, Geraldton
Day 8. Geraldton to Perth (BL)
Today we travel across the Greenough plains with their famous windswept trees, to the cray fishing village of Dongara where we enjoy morning tea overlooking the fishing boat harbour. Lunch awaits you at the Jurien Bay Hotel. In the afternoon we travel south, a leg stretch at Gingin before our arrival into Perth. Your Mt Augustus and outback adventurer holiday concludes with a late afternoon arrival into Perth and your safe return to your home.
